Wiring up some accessories - Help Needed

I'm thinking about rigging up a couple of additional electronic items on my bike. I might try to find some low wattage (LED?) lights that I can mount on the front for greater visibility (me being seen). I also want to add a 12v charger to charge a phone on really long days.

I'm not good with electronics on the KZ but do have a manual with wiring diagrams.

How do I go about wiring up these items so that they are on when the ignition is on but wont drain the battery when the bike is off. Or even powered when the ignition is on but not "ON" unless I flip a toggle switch.

Would I have to splice an ignition wire into a relay? Something like this?

[Ground]
*
[Battery]----[Relay]----[fuse]+[toggle]----[lights]or[charger]
*
[Ignition Wire? Which one? From where? How do you properly splice...?]

I appreciate any help, I'm just trying to wrap my head around this and I know that some of you guys are really good with this stuff.

I think that there is a spare lead (brown wire in the headlight)that I can use for power for one of these, and grounding is easy enough... but any help is appreciated.

I'll also let you guys know that I have the wiring/fuse box upgrades from www.cwswiring.com/Shop.html
which provides a spare fused lead from the battery, but I'm still not 100% sure how to go about this.

A relay should be thought of as a remote controlled switch, it's working contacts are designed to handle 30-40 amps that would burn out normal switches. The relay will have an energizing coil, that pulls in or moves the working contacts, doing the actual work, turning on the horn, or lights.

For splicing, I use either type of heatshrinkable splice; the kind that's got built in solder, or the kind that has to be crimped, and then shrunk down.

Here's some youtube video's about splicing, proper tools to use, plus, relays, and how to wire them:
