Get rid of the regulator? Get ready to buy light bulbs by the pallet.

I don't know about the battery; some bikes can get away with using a capacitor as a substitute (although a little compact battery may be a better choice). The regulator is needed though; otherwise as the engine revs and puts out more juice the bulbs will blow and there may be damage to other systems (such as electronic ignition if you bike has it). Ed

You may want to try a search on this site for lithium battery or open a new thread with that in the title. Ed

I have a small 4 cell ballistic lithium battery that I will use for my kick only setup, its smaller than the starter, bigger than the necessary capacitor, seemed the best method to me.

If the bike is in good tune, and you are running minimal lighting, you should be able to get away with simply replaceing the battery with a 5000 to 10000 microfarad, 50 to 75 volt capacitor.

Using a smaller battery does make troubleshooting easier.

If you are going to pull the starter - make sure you have a starter hole plug.

I just bought one of these self generating race ignitions for my Z9 cafe.

Just kickstart, no battery or any other electrics apart from kill switch.

I'm using a small total loss battery for horn and brake light which is needed for our yearly MOT.

Near £500 though.
