Flashers flashing...flashers not flashing

77 KZ650C-1 sat over the winter and was fine when I parked it. Toward the end of the year I had this weird problem that I eventually figured out was the emergency flasher relay causing the whole bike to surge. Weird...
so I replaced the relays (Turn signal and emergency) with a triton 552LL. Im beginning to think that this isnt the correct relay for either application. Can anyone confirm this?

Flasher relay connected or turn signal connected (or both for that matter) and the flashers wont turn off. If I use the old relay, it works but that relay is faulty and it eventually blows the main and gets gaaaaadamn hot.

Bike is a recent basketcase that I'm slowly unraveling the PO's nightmare.

First thing, do you have the stock setup? Original bulbs, proper size and the like? Not LED? Any deviation from the original configuration?

I used a Tridon/Stant 552 2 prong flasher on my KZ650-C1 for the turn signals and it works great. The hazard flasher is still stock, so I don't know if the Tridon is correct for that application. Ed
