Burnt coils?

So I was about to get the getocycle finally registered when I tried to leave to get my title my bike wouldnt start. It kept blowing ignition fuses like crazy. I tried to wrap foil around the fuse to get me home and it would start up long enough for me to get my helmet on then it would die. it did this a few times and i just walked home.

When i came back i noticed my turn signal hot wire that runs from the same wire as the coils was shorting out so i wrapped it up in electrical tape. I finally just loaded up my bike and took it home. Now I can get it to start for like 2 seconds every 15 minutes or so.

Does this sound like a blown coil? One coil gets pretty good spark and the other is weak....

Any suggestions for a fix on the cheapish side of things?

I have a seca and i was wondering if i could use its coils until i find some for the KZ?

Also I went back outside one coil was hooked up and one wasnt.

the one that was was really hot and the mounting posts were scorching!

I think its the coils im about to try an get some used ones off CL or some dynas I guess? Now it acts like theres spark and will run for a bit off ether. so probably weak weak spark...

If those are 30 year old coils, throw them as far away as possible.

Theyre toast now :laugh: Can i put an electronic ignition system from a later kz onto my old bike?
