Fuel Gauge

I have a 1980 kz650LTD. When I turn my bike on the fuel light lights up so I figured it was working. However, I was riding down the highway today and ran out of gas. I was wondering if there are any troubleshooting steps in fixing this.

I guess you mean the fuel light didn't warn you that you were low on fuel. I dont have a fuel light I just reset my trip odometer with each fill up and run it about 120 or so miles then fill up again.

You might try the filebase link above and look for a wiring diagram and some of the folks have been able to post service manuals in the filebase for some bikes. Good luck!
