03 Apr 2012 16:55Is it possible the HIGH/LOW filaments are reversed in the new bulb?1slowkayzee wrote: The aftermarket brake light works perfectly fine, but only when the ignition switch is in the park position. Even with the voltage deviation, the oem light is very bright when the ignition is in the normal position. Also, the voltage is low because my charging system doesn't work.

before you start replacing wires your stock light works fine but the new one doesn't?
if it is a standard bulb light obviously double check your wiring then take a piece of wire strip both ends like you are wiring a speaker ground one end to the engine and the other end to the light socket.
if it is an LED take that ground wire and attach it to the ground wire lead. see if you get any change.

Probably not because then the bulb would be brightest before applying brake.....but then again wires are my enemy and perhaps my bike hates me.

Ramtough- I gave that a try and still no improvement. I have a starter issue taking priority at the moment though.

You never answered the question: Is your new tail light LED or incandescent?

Is the wattage the same or greater for the new brake light? The bulb should have either the watts stamped on the bulb or marked with ink. If the wattage(thats how light output is measured by the amount of power consumed)is greater than what you had, it may be dragging down the charging system.

The oem bulb doesn't work in the new housing so it has something to do with how the new housing is wired/ grounded. I guess I should try different ground solutions?

Give details on the new housing. Where'd you get it, who made it, is there a wiring diagram, what's the part no. of the bulb. You know, the info we need to look it up and troubleshoot it.

All of the information on the brake light is here:
www.dimecitycycles.com/vintage-cafe-race...t-62-21512-gbpc.html
If that link doesn't work. It's a Classic style round tail light by dcc bikes. No info is provided on the website except for that it is "universal" and SKU: 62-21512-GBPC.
I also don't think that I can disassemble it without damaging something, it's held together very tight. Will call them tomorrow if I can't troubleshoot this.

If I looked correctly, there were three(3) wires going to the new brake light. I don't think the light is case grounded (could be wrong). I'd get a multimeter and start checking the wiring for continuity as it could be wired wrong....
