advancer woes

Will a 1980 kz 1000 mechanical advancer work on an 82 1000? THere's one for cheap on ebay and I might snag it to try'n get rid of some uncertainties I've been having about a broken-then-welded-together unit on my bike. The bike runs great at speed, but idle sucks and it tries to kick back on starting, so I think it may not be retarding properly

already looked there... they are not the same p/n, however, the p/n is also different than the one off my '83, which IS the same thing. the '82 part name is a "governor/breaker", whereas the '80 is "advancer". Not sure what that means.

If the part numbers are different, then there is a difference in the parts. Might be different spring tension to slow the advance, or less to speed it up, or some other minor thing that would have no actual effect.
It don't mean it won't work though :)
I believe the 80 is a Mk II motor and I know the 81-83 is a J motor, and since they are different designs I'd say there is a slim chance that they will interchange.

Hopefully someone that knows for sure will post.
