Stator condition kz650d 1978 was created by markc3wa
I'm working on the charging system of my 1978 kz650d. The book says that the resistance between the two leads should be .4 ohms. I'm wondering if that reading has to be precisely .4 ohms or if there is a range that is still acceptable; I get between .7 and .9 ohms.
Thanks!

I would say that is a little high, my FSM indicates between .32 to .48 is spec. Your readings would tend to indicate an open.
Have you done the check with each lead to ground - should get infinity - anything less and would tend to indicate a short.
Have you tested voltage output of the system - directly from the dynamo before the reg/rect? Should be about 75 volts AC at 4000 rpms.

Thanks for the response! I do indeed get infinity when I measure resistance from each lead to ground. The stator is probably worn out or close to it. Looks like I have a date with ebay.
