This wiring diagram should be very close and might be helpful:
Or find other wiring diagrams, etc. through the FILEBASE.
Would assure the black/yellow wire is providing a good ground connection.
Good Fortune!

Assure good wiring connections at the pressure activated switch (front brake light) and at the mechanical switch that's supposedly operated by depressing the rear brake pedal.
The rear switch is adjustable to provide the correct spring tension whereby the switch connects when the pedal is depressed and remains disconnected while the pedal isn't depressed.
Good Fortune!

I'd check the fuses first before getting into the wiring, as the older glass tubed fuses can fail but look good. AGX is the type of fuse needed, most auto parts stores can get them for you.
Here's the wiring color codes for the brake/tail light circuit:
BRAKE/TAIL LIGHT Can be an # 1157 dual filament bulb
RED, Running or Tail Light.
BLUE,(sometimes with a Red stripe) Brake Light Circuit.
BLACK with YELLOW stripe, the ground circuit.

It might be necessary to turn the ignition switch ON to provide voltage for the brake light.
