1978 Kawasaki KZ1000 B3 lights issue was created by PistolGrip18
having a issue with a 1978 kawasaki kz1000 b3 lights are not working right cannot get the connections left blinker not working on back and front right blinker on front turns on but does not blink but the back one does not turn on any help would be appreciated.

Color Codes On Most Kawasaki’s

HEADLIGHT
RED with BLACK stripe, High Beam.
RED with YELLOW stripe, Low Beam.
BLACK with YELLOW stripe, the ground circuit.

BRAKE/TAIL LIGHT Can be an # 1157 dual filament bulb
RED, Running or Tail Light.
BLUE,(sometimes with a Red stripe) Brake Light Circuit.
BLACK with YELLOW stripe, the ground circuit.

LEFT FRONT TURN SIGNAL Can be an #1157 dual filament bulb
GREEN, Left front turn signal circuit.
BLUE, Left front running light circuit.
BLACK with YELLOW stripe, the ground circuit.

RIGHT FRONT TURN SIGNAL Can be an # 1157 dual filament bulb
GREY, Right front turn signal circuit.
BLUE, Right front running light circuit.
BLACK with YELLOW stripe, the ground circuit.

LEFT REAR TURN SIGNAL Can be an #1156 single filament bulb
GREEN, Left rear turn signal circuit.
BLACK with YELLOW stripe, the ground circuit.

RIGHT REAR TURN SIGNAL Can be an #1156 single filament bulb
GREY, Right rear turn signal circuit.
BLACK with YELLOW stripe, the ground circuit.

I'd start with new, fresh light bulbs, and have a multimeter handy to check voltages and continuity of the grounds.

What owners don't know, is that inside the chrome stem for the turn signals is a very small "Bullet Style" electrical connector. It may have corrosion or a bad crimp cauisng your problems. Get new flasher relay cans as they fail over time too. Most auto parts stores have them in stock.

Open up the handlebar switch pods too, as crumbled solder connections have been reported on the older Kawasaki's. If you need help in soldering the switches, just ask....
