Mitsuba starter 78 KZ650 D was created by markc3wa
The starter on my 1978 KZ650 D has failed. I want to pull the armature so I can clean and test it and the field coils. The cover at the clutch housing end as well as the brush holder appear to be crimped in place. Any advice on how to remove the brush holder? It's apparently a replaceable part. Or is my curiosity just getting the better of me and should I just replace the starter outright?
Any thoughts are gratefully appreciated!

Tried using a cold chisel & hammer to move the crimped end?
