I have an 82 kz550 and i was riding one day and it just cut off on me. I changed the rectifer and tried restarting but the starter relay silinoid turned out bad, so i bought a new relay and a throttle assemebly with the kill switch and starter switch, hooked everything up and i still have nothing. can anyone help me? if i jump the relay, it will turn over but not with the starter switch.

which 550 do you have?
Some have a starter lockout on the clutch lever. It stops the starter from truning if you are not pulling the clutch lever. It's possible that the switch on the clutch lever is bad. You can just twist the wires together.
Some other ones have a kickstand switch which works with the neutral switch to make sure you don't drive off with the kickstand down. If the neutral switch or kickstand switch are faulty, they can kill the ignition as well.

If you've bought a solenoid from a riding lawn mower shop, to make it work, I'd think adding a ground wire to the body of the solenoid, and then conecting it to a good chassis ground will make it work. As mentioned, the clutch lever has an interlock switch that must be squeezed to start the engine.

If not already done, would check FILEBASE for a wiring diagram.
