complete rewiring advise needed was created by gmarais
Hi all, as a new 1981 750 owner I would like to know if it will be to any advantage to do complete rewiring on my bike from head to toe. My main concern is that I want to change the headlight and that the wires will need to go straight from the handle bars to the chassis under the tank. The previous owner(s?) wrapped all the wires together with ordinary electrical isolation tape and after I unwrapped them, found them in total chaos. It should be ok to cut off the male-female plugs, solder the wire joints and shrink wrap them, or should I be cautious about something in this procedure? Ie will this tinning process damage the ignitor or regulator/rectifier?
Thanks for any advise.

If you cut out some connectors and solder the wires together, you may have problems later down the road when you need to remove or separate something, although you could cut the wire again.
Try to keep the heat away from sensitive electrics like the IC Igniter and the reg/rect. You should be able to solder on a length of wire away from these units without warming the electrics too much.

www.cwswiring.com/ should be able to help with any missing bits of wire, or a complete harness. Shoot them an email if you need something.

New wire connectors are available through
www.z1enterprises.com/
and other places.

hi rider!

my name is Angel and i've just rewired
my whole bike from end to end. is your bike
a kz750 ltd h2 1981?

guess who has a better harness for your bike?
me! trouble is i live in the uk! i've bought
mine through ebay from the us and canada!

i'm willing to help you. the harness's are quite
rare. looking for $50 + shipping cost to you.
the harness is in good condition, stored in a warm
room and will be better for your bike!
much cheaper than z1!

regards

@ Angel: thanks for the offer. I do have another doner bike with a lot of extra spares on the way, but i'm not even sure in what condition it is. In case I still need that harness, I will definitely give you a shout.

hi g

always here to help!

i've a lot of spares here. i bought them as and
when i found them on ebay us.

main harness 81 kz ltd h2
rectifiers
ic ignitors
pick up coils

q) do you've a colour wiring schematic?
i've one here if not!
what i did was this. on a very large table
lay your harness. connect up from top to
bottom all the necessary bike electrical parts:-

front light
front turns
gauges
rectifier
ic ignitor
relays
coils
starter solenoid
rear lights
rear turns

then check all the connections for breakages.
repair them.

connect your battery up, lights will light etc.

i actually put masking tape labels on mine!
this way you wont miss any bad connection.
you will know the condition of your connections
and being colour coded, makes life easier
to reinstall on your bike.

i scanned the coloured schematic in and using
a suitable board made the schematic 4 times larger.
i then stuck this to the board and it's easier to follow
the colour coding!

i did my wiring totally, first time!
it all works :-)

let me know how you get on g!
i've spares here if you need any!
$ cheaper!

make it work g!
