we started restoring this bike in may 2009.
i was injured in this period (hit by a white man cager) and we're nearing
completion.
q) new battery bought in 2009, this has been periodically
maintained. we'd a good spark then. today the bike turns over, everything works.
yet no spark?
the oem electronic ignition went faulty and replaced
with a boyer brandson one. new coils etc. wiring double checked!
on switching on the lights, the turns all work, pulling the clutch in and kill switch/on turns over sluggishly.
the battery has been on an optimizer for 48 hours. the battery went completely flat overnight?
could the battery be the fault of no spark?
we've taken out all the plugs in turn, put against the engine, no sparks at all, nothing?
many thanks for your advice, we want to hear the dinosaur roar!

H2? Is this the 2-stroke triple? That doesn't sound right for the year, but perhaps in the UK they still imported them?
There's a pretty easy check for what you describe, put the plugs back in so the motor is cranking against compression and put a volt ohm meter or digital multimeter (DMM) hooked to the battery. Measure the static voltage and then crank the bike long enough to read the cranking voltage. If it drops below 10 volts, your battery is probably bad. If your cranking voltage drops too far it can definitely affect spark. If you find this kind of voltage drop, hook a jumper battery or battery charger rated for cranking while you crank the motor and see if you have spark then.

thank you so much for your helpful message!
the basket case kz750 ltd h2 1981 originated from the US!
please see the before and after photos in the Kz Gallery.
i'd to source most parts from your Ebay!
There is another H2 from mid 70's too. Mine is
the classic US version, not the vintage.
i actually imported an engine from missouri to the uk!
it only had 6600 on the gauge. A gem of a find. i bought
the gauges too, same mileage.
please see my photos!
thanks again!

i will use your advice and test the battery tomorrow.
it does crank very sluggishly. i will test the coils individually.
Also check the new ignition wiring.

we did some battery checks today.
nb: the battery has been charged for 48hrs.
the battery voltage was 12.4v then seconds later
dropped on it's own to 11.7.
when it was cranked it went to 7.5 - 8.5!
just as you advised.
i checked the ignition system, coils and pick up
coil. all ok. i even segregated each coil in turn
and no sparks anywhere. i phoned boyer
bransden today. the minimum voltage
is 12v and my new battery should start my baby!
i might get the new motobatt agp battery tomorrow.
20% extra power.
i will let you know, fingers crossed!
a great big thank you!
