sorry its a 1980 z1000. but with a 76 kz900 motor but i used the stock electronic ignition set up from the 1000 on the 900 engine.

That bike should be able to go batteryless. The alternator uses permanent magnets, and the ignition is a good one for batteryless.
It's just a matter of how hard it is to kickstart, and how well tuned it is.
