How can I stop front "parkers" from coming on ?
04 Jan 2012 08:57
Hi all,
might seem a dumb question, but how can I stop the front amber lights from operating all the time (when in normal riding mode) ?
What I mean is....what do I have to do to make it so they only come on when indicators are selected , and not stay on all the time - short of putting some tape over one of the globe contacts. Is there a simple "wire disconnect", or something ?

You should have 3 wires, 1 ground, 1 + for parking light and 1 + for turn signal.
Just disconnect/cut the + parking light wire

The front marker/turn signals use dual filament bulbs. Inside the headlight bucket, you should be able to access the wires, and as Luc says, you can just unplug the wires that go to the permanently-on filaments.

Should find a color wiring diagram for the particular model at hand in the FILEBASE, which will show the applicable wire colors.

LEFT FRONT TURN SIGNAL Can be an #1157 dual filament bulb
GREEN, Left front turn signal circuit.
BLUE, Left front running light circuit. {Disconnect this one for the running lights}
BLACK with YELLOW stripe, the ground circuit.
RIGHT FRONT TURN SIGNAL Can be an # 1157 dual filament bulb
GREY, Right front turn signal circuit.
BLUE, Right front running light circuit. {Disconnect this one for the running lights}
BLACK with YELLOW stripe, the ground circuit.
If you turn the key to the far right, the tail light will come on in the "Park Position", and the key should be able to be removed.

Thanks very much to all you guys.
Parkers aren't allowed to be on down here (whilst riding normally) - only as indicators. Sounds easy, so I'll give it a try.

Many thanks,
Peter
