The static timing is okay for a ball-park setting, while others just set the large round back-plate in mid-position, the main idea being getting the engine to run so that dynamic timing may then be performed.
I get satisfactory results by following the same dynamic timing procedure as used with points, that is to say aligning the F marks at idle rpm.
For ultra-fine-timing-tuning, each Dyna-S module is independently adjustable a very slight amount. But I've never felt the urge to do so, because didn't want to mess with imo already a perfect idle.
Good Fortune!

Guessing this is to maximize the chances for best timing at higher rpm when the advancer is in its most forward position.
But I'm content to rely on the strobe-type timing light to confirm that the advance marks properly align with the permanent case mark at higher rpm when the advancer is in its most forward position.
It's the stops on the advancer that limit its forward movement, as MamaKaw designed. And the stop position may slightly vary, or have been modified by a previous owner.
Good Fortune!

Set the timing at the "F" mark, not at TDC. When I did my Dyna-S, after doing the static timing, I didn't have to make any adjustments doing the dynamic (probably just got lucky lol)
