Gpz 750 unitrack was created by Rusty
Hi,
Just bought a non-starting Gpz750 unitrack cheap, however I have found out the starter motor is scrap.
I took it apart and the carbon brushes fell out !.
What other starter will fit?
I have the chance to get one from a Z-650 which looks identical, can anyone confirm it is or not? I dont want to buy it if it does not fit.
Many thanks
Chris

Rusty. The GPz 750 was made for a number of years and the bike changed quite a bit during the course of its life. I suggest you edit your profile (signature) to include the bike year and specific model... is it a ZX750A?
The starters are probably all the same but my cross referance software died so I can't confirm. Go to www.zedder.com and buy some cross reference software. It isn't expensive and will tell you specificially what and what not part numbers are the same for your model.

I just took a quick look at the parts diagrams at
www.buykawasaki.com
and none of the part numbers for the 79-83 KZ650 starter match the part number for the 83 GPz750 Unitrack (AKA Zx750A).
It looks to me like the 650 starter will physically fit, but it may not have the cranking power of the 750 starter. Kawasaki gave them different part numbers, so there must be some difference.
It looked like there was at least three different part numbers for KZ650 starters.

I think you can also rebuild the brushes with a kit for your bike. Try
www.z1enterprises.com
and tell them I sent you.

Hi guys,
Just an update on this subject.
Got the Z650 (KZ650 to you guys) starter and the only difference is that the main terminal is at the other end.
Both starters are Mitsuba's and both have the same main part number, 8208. The sub part number is different.
Fits perfectly (with a little bit of a fiddle for the cable) and works like a charm.
Kawasaki even still do a brush kit (though in my case its not just the brushes that are worn) and certainly for you guys over in the USA I found one shop that actually listed all parts for Mitsuba motors.
