Starter solenoids have small wires for the energizing coil(the part that makes the inner contacts move so the starter motor will turn).

There is no polarity as the Positive(+) RED battery cable goes to one side of the solenoid at the large terminals, and the other side goes to the starter motor.

To test out the solenoid, leave the Positive(+) battery cable disconnected, and if the energizing coil is connected and the clutch lever is squeezed, with the ignition switch on, you should hear the solenoid "Click" when the start button is pushed.

A Negative(-) Black cable connection is not needed due to the starter motor being grounded to the engine.
