650E1 rectifier problem was created by Onetype
I have a 5 wire rectifier that isn't charging. According to my wiring diagram, the black wire connects to the yellow/red trace wire off my relay, which feeds into the ground system (black/yellow trace) to the negative side of battery.

When I try and hook up the wire, it pops/sparks blue, and immediately gets HOT. I've even tried taking the black wire off the rectifier straight to a ground and no change. At one point my old battery was connected backwards and left overnight (yeah, I know...). I'm thinking it fried the rectifier. Any thoughts? I've found a source for new ones, but they are expensive (over $100), and I can't find one on OregonMotorcycles. Any suggestions?

Also, mine says sh222-12 9.9 What is the 9.9, as most of the ones I am seeing are 0.2 or different. Do I need another one that says 9.9 or no?

Go to this page:

www.oregonmotorcycleparts.com/VRRPM.html

You want the part number VRRPM2-KZC. It's $92.

As I look further, this might not be a direct fit. You might want to buy the one that just has leads and wire it in yourself.

Yup, hopefully so. You have a service manual? If so, go through and check your electrical system. There are a bunch of values you can check. Also go through your wiring to make sure you havent fried any of the actual wiring.

Well, I got the new one on during lunch and the bike is keeping a steady 13.50-13.60 volts at idle. Hooked up my tail light just to give it a little drain and it appears good.
