Running Light problem....LEDs. was created by Dale65
Guys, I got a problem that's driving me crazy. Used the search feature here and can't see anything like it, so if one of you has, please speak up.

I installed one of those all-in-one LED rear lights. Everything works except the running light. After much experimentation and checking wire color codes I figured out one thing. If I disconnect the brake light wire, the running light comes on. But when I hook it back up, running light goes off. I hit the brake lever and the brake light comes on. Blinkers work. The lic. plate light even comes on. Just no running light. Strangest thing I ever seen. I put the old factory light back on and it works fine. Any ideas?

Thanks!

Make & Model number of the integrated light assembly with a picture showing the conductors would help... ;)

There's quite a few ppl here with electrical/electronic education & experience and would be more then happy to help out. Need a tad bit more info.

With that said, forget about hooking it up to the bike for the time being, first test the conductor configurations on a battery only. Then the rest is easy. B)

Well, Old Man, it's a knock-off aftermarket so no make/model on the light. But I've been testing it every which way I can think of and I've come to the conclusion that it's defective right out of the box. Thanks for the input...

Update on the problem I'm having....it's not the light. Even though I plugged in the old light and it worked fine, I realized I could test my new LED light by hooking it in directly to the battery instead of my wiring on the bike. It worked like it should. So I'm thinking maybe the LED's are polarity sensitive and something about my wiring is throwing it for a loop. After all, a 1981 bike wasn't designed with LED's in mind. So I'm breaking out the meter and I'm going to test the wiring to see if I can determine what is happening...wish me luck.

Any other suggestions are welcome.
