It depends on the coils you buy, you might get wires, and caps. Then maybe you need to buy wires and caps, many choices. Which coils do you have your eye on?

Accel makes a popular 3 ohm ignition coil replacement, and so does Dyna in the 2.2 Grey and 3.0 ohm Green coils.

The Dyna coil accepts the popular 7mm sparkplug wires, where the Accel has terminals similar to the sparkplug ends.

Both of these coils will need new terminals crimped on the ends of the primary(small wires)sides as they take #10 ring terminals, and what came with the Kawasaki coils were 1/4" push on terminals.

What year KZ1100?

It's important to fit ignition coils with the proper resistance.

Good Fortune! :)

i saw those but i dont really want to spend 160 bucks until i know the coils are bad... if i get this replacement, i got it pretty cheap, and there is no imporvement i will spring for those. so far im still under $500 for the entire investment in the bike

for these coils is there really no way to replace just the wires?

The coils do seem to outlast their permanently affixed spark plug wires.

While never having tried to replace the permanently affixed type spark plug wires, there is a "splicer" available for this purpose.

spark plug wire splicer at Z1E

If you have the Stock Kawasaki Coils on your 1100, then the wires should be replaceable.
Have you got ypou OHM meter out to Measure whats what with the coils? Checked the supply voltage to the coils from the Ignition switch? Voltage may be low causing weak spark.
