Prob a dumb question, but I have a little welding to do on the back of my frame to mount my tail light: do I just need to remove my battery? Will I fry anything with it removed?

Biggest concern will be the ignition of hydrogen gas escaping from the battery.
Also depends on where you clamp your ground to,path of least resistance.

Better safe than sorry. Take out the battery, and disconnect any of the grounds. Then clean off an area real close to your welding site for the ground clamp.

There's an episode of Long Way Round where they fry one of their bike's ABS by welding on the frame without disconnecting anything.

But yeah, think of where a lazy electron will go and make sure it's to your welding ground clamp!

Remove the battery and isolate as much as possible. Good clean welding ground..
