Accel Super Coils was created by JanTaliban
Hi!

Im going to install Accel Super Coils on my bike, it's an 750 Twin -83 with electronic ignition. When reading other posts i figured out that I shoul have 3 ohm coils and no ballast resistor. There is what I belive a resistor mounted on the left topend engine bracket, it's bolted in along with the coil, is that the ballast resistor? If so, do I just disconnect it and bridge the cables that connects it? Another question is if the ignition is CDI? As far as I understand, it's electronically triggered but not CDI, correct me if i'm wrong. I also read here that th Accel coils shoud fit right in the mounting holes in the bracket, at least until -80, anybody tried on an -83? The coils i'm going to use is Accel 140403S or 140403KS, it only found 140403S i Sweden so far, I think the KS is a newer version, don't know the difference between them. Any input on this will be much appreciated.

3-ohm coils will likely work, but the Dyna Gray 2.2-ohm coils are probably a better match for the KZ electronic ignition. Have you measured the resistance on the original coils (cold)? They will probably be under 3-ohms.

The European 750 twin models (at least earlier ones) had a resistor for the lights. It's not ignition related. Yours is likely for lighting as well, since there is no reason to use a ballast on the electronic ignition if the proper coils are available (in 1979, and maybe 1980, some KZ's may have had ballasts due to coil availability).

And yes, it's transistorized, not CDI.

Take care of how close the primary(small wires)are going to be touching the mounting spacers, as this can cause fuse blowing. Both the Dyna and Accel ignition coils primary terminals seem to be really close to the spacers.

@MFolks:
That might be an issue, but i'm a litte more worried about the secondary connections. When looking at the picture, they will point to the right when mounted in the original position at the bracket, on the one I have now, the connections is pointing backwards, will it be room enough for the ignition wires? Or will they rub against the right bracket? It would be awsome with some pictures of a coil already fitted to a 750 Twin. Thanks for your input so far, MFolks and loudhvx,

I'd imagine the coil will have some room for adjustment in the mounting hardware. Try to keep the sparkplug(or high tension leads)from contacting the tank or frame. Doing so will reduce the chance of the spark energy going to ground, killing the spark.

I will check primary resistance tomorrow, aswell if there's enogug room in there for the plug wires. Then I'll decide if I go with a Dyna or an Accel. I think however that they doesn't sell the Dyna coils for the 750 Twin i Sweden.

Check with www.z1enterprises.com Jeff Saunders owns the company and either he or his employee's can get most Kawasaki and after market parts.I'd imagine geting a dual output coil for you would be no problem.....

I am using the Accel Coils on my 82 K2 LTD, other than 1 plug wire going out, they have performed fantastic. I bought them used on Feebay over a year ago, about 7K miles ago.
