82 Kz750 starter clutch?

On my 82 kawasaki I just bought the starter solenoid and the starter both work. I had the dynamo cover off and saw that the chain was just spinning. the manual says if it turns clockwise without moving the starter and turns counterclockwise with moving the chain then theres not a problem. yet all it does is spin. It catches every once in awhile. but I'm really stuck on this. any help would be appreciated. Its actually giving me a headache because i just bought a new clutch cable, battery, gas tank, carbs, and carb rebuild kits for it. anyway, safe riding everyone.

This may take care of it or the three bolts that hold the clutch gear to the stator could be loose, the clutch gear could be worn wear the rollers ride or the chain gear hub, thats the inner piece it Grabs.

As Motor Head says, that kit is more than likely the answer to your problem. The starter clutch should let the chainwheel spin 1 way, but not the other.

on the starter clutch i turned it counter clockwise and it moves the chain, but when i turn it clockwise it does turn the chain. the only problem is, when i hit the electric start the chain just spins. sorry i wasn't clearer when putting up this post.

Sounds like the starter clutch to me, its behind the flywheel. Im no expert though, im on a big learning curve too.

Think about how much force you have to apply to your kick starter lever to turn the motor. Then think about the starter one way clutch, it needs to be able to Grip with a lot of force to be able to apply the torque from the starter to the crankshaft. If the parts a worn, then it shows up under this high stress, not when trying to turn it by hand.

alright thanks. I guess i'll get outt there and take it off and look at the clutch. I'm learning as I go really. this is my first time actually fixing a bike. I've always just fixed my cars. anyway, thanks for your help.
