Rebuild: Do i replace my coil etc? was created by 750steve
When im doing the rebuild on my 750 twin do i replace the coil etc?

& forgive me for asking this (im new to all this) but under the tank there is a large white cylindrical thingy, what is it?

Bear in mind i'll be doing a full rewire so is there anything i should consider replacing?

Pictures? If the sparkplug wires go to it, it's probably the ignition coil. Most coils are black in color. It could be part of what Kawasaki called the "Clean Air Suction System" designed to inject clean, filtered air to the exhaust ports cleaning up the emissions.

I'll put some pics up tomorrow, looking forward to getting stripping the bike. Under the tank there is a small green cylinder mounted to the left of the top tube, about 100mm long (is this not the coil?). The white cylinder im talking about is about 40-50mm in diameter & about 120ish mm long. It seems to sit at the very top of the cylinder head kind of in the frame.

Shouldn't be anything else there other than the coil/engine mount.

However, I acquired one 750 twin that had two single output coils mounted there. kinda weird.

Lots of good info on kawasaki.com, including parts diagrams, part numbers, models sharing same part, availability, etc.

Here's a link for help with navigating the site and finding information.

Ok, i've taken the decision im going to replace my coil, 34 years of service so it has done well. Here it is, in white!

So, as i mentioned before there was something else there, i thought that something else was the coil, only because i've never seen a coil before. Here is the 'thing' & where it is positioned under the tank.

I've bought myself a multimeter today as well, to make sure i order the correct dyna coil i realise i have to measure the resistance of the coil, how do i do this?

Again, sorry for all the probably dumbass questions you prob think im asking as you've all seen it before but i'm jusst learning.

& here she is, stripped. Ready for the engine to be taken out (hopefully tomorrow)

A little off subject, but how do you remove the rear caliper from the bracket?

I'm guessing a ballast resistor, but I'm not familiar with the electric's on a twin. It would lower the input voltage to the ignition coil. similar to what some of the early 4's had.

Do you have ignition points?

Ummm, yeah, i think so. Well i have that circular plate on the RHS of the enging behind a cover, it has 1 point & a condenser on it.

Yup, you've got ignition points. One of the twin owners will have to tell you about wether or not to remove the ballast resistor. It's wire wound resistor(the green tubular item)but I'm not sure what the white item is. Any voltages or amps marked on it?

The white item i believe is the coil. I'll go check it for values.

How do i measure the resistance across it with a multimeter?

& i havent seen that ballast resistor mentioned by anyone before??

I can't see the photos from work, but some of the 750's, at least in Europe, had a resistor for the headlight to make it a tad dimmer. It looked like a green cylinder.

You can get a very close replacement for the coil from Z1 enterprises, made by Emgo. Some have reported it works well.
