Fuse Voltage

Hi, I'm looking at replacing a blown fuse - the main fuse - 20A AGX glass one...
I'm just wondering whether or not I can run with a 35V fuse compared to a 250V?
I'm not exactly how many volts I need - I'm running a 12V battery on a '82 Z250.

Thanks.

If in doubt, get the lowest voltage rated fuse in AGX size that will fit the fuse clips. What is the voltage rating of the other fuses?

You can go higher, not lower.

The voltage rating is the highest voltage under which the fuse will stop the current. So if there was no inductive surge, theoretically a 15v fuse would do the job.

But because it may be interrupting an inductive load, the voltage will briefly be higher than that, so it is better to use a higher voltage rated fuse. Use a 32v or higher rated fuse.

If you use a lower rating fuse than is recommended, the fuse may arc and not break immediately.

Theres no voltage marked on the other 2 fuses. So the fuse works for volts and amps? Sorry, bit noob to this, I assumed as its specified as a 20A fuse n the manual, then it blew because a 15A was being used...didn't consider voltage.

But fro what you're saying the 32V should be ok?

Thanks.

Yes. If it requires a 20A fuse, use a 20A, 32v fuse, or higher voltage fuse. Most service stations will have some sort of fuse collection for sale if you don't have a parts store near you.

Lol how stupid of me, that's the only place I didn't check. O tried all the autoshops and electrical shops and noone had the AGX size so I just otdered some online. Probably take 3 weeks to get here...

Thanks but. Hopefully it will be fine.

Probably about the same price too, looking at how much they cost...all part of the learning experience lol.
Looks less neat but no? Or do you have that under the seat? I haven't ventured into rewiring yet and I try to keep my distance from all things electrical for now.

Or get rid of all 3 at once and have a spare with one of these. Fit right in the same spot as the old fuse case.
