79 Kz650 starter solenoid replacement

Wiring the bike tonight and the starter relay apparently went bad. Tested it with a small relay, and got it to click. I can jump the bad relay with a screw driver and obviously it will turn over. So I need to grab a new one, What can I use as a replacement? Or what amp relay do I need to get?

Well you can order the OEM type from kaw, or a replacement through, say Z1. Or Ebay has them, then you could just go to a small engine shop, and get a solenoid for a riding mower/ generator. OEM like $65, Universal, or small engine, around $30.

Thanks motor head. I'm on the hunt for one today. I saw one on a generator at the store, didn't see any on the shelf though. Going to try another place.

Try any of the riding lawnmower shops, for about $15-$20 you should be able to find one that will work,keep in mind you may have to add an additional grounding wire to make it work as most Kawasaki ones are ready to go without needing more wiring.

Take your old one along for size comparison/mounting configuration.

Thanks guys. I found one at Sears for $14.99, hope it works, I have one on my brothers xs400 that i'm building him, but I'm not ready to rob it just yet lol.
