What does this plug in to?

I pulled my headlight to get to the wiring today while trying to diagnose a charging issue, and noticed this 9 pin connector just hanging out in there.



In my manual it says to unplug it to test the dynamo, but mine was never connected in the first place, and I cant seem to find anything that it could plug in to.

There are also a few other wires in there with no friends. When I got it it was running/charging before a nice electrical fire melted part of the harness. I pulled the whole harness off, repaired the burnt wires, and put it back on. None of these were connected before this, and it has me really confused.

I think I diagnosed my problem as a bad REC, as when I tested it per the manual, I get an open reading (infinity) across every connection.

If you include the Year and model of your bike it will help those who are answering your question.

I'll take a stab. It looks like the 9 pin connector that goes to the dash on my 78 KZ1000A2. It has the wires to all the idiot lights and the back lighting for the gauges.

Sorry! its a 76 KZ750.

I did pull the dash off as none of it worked anyway and re mounted just the IGN switch. Is anything charging related ran through that?

Not to my knowledge, but I'm not too familiar with the KZ750 wiring. Look in the filebase, there should be a wiring diagram for your bike in there.
