Fuse And Fuse Holder Designations
1. The older Kawasaki’s use a glass tubed fuse with the designation of AGX 1” long. Most good auto parts stores can get them for you. They are ¼” in diameter.
2. The more common AGC is 1 ¼” long and may not fit the smaller fuse clips. Again, ¼” in diameter.
3. To clean and polish the fuse clips, I use a cotton swab(Q- Tip) and some Brasso metal cleaner or Turtle Wax Chrome Polish. I suppose any good metal polish would work.
4. These fuses can fail internally but look good, only by removing them from the clip and electrically continuity checking with either a self powered test light, or a multimeter set on OHMS can they be determined to be in good shape.
5. A physical inspection of the metal end caps for tightness will tell you if the fuse is serviceable.
6. Most modern motorcycles are now using the automobile “Blade” style fuse with the designation of ATC or ATO.
7. The reduced sized “Mini” Blade style fuse holder uses the ATM size of fuses.
8. If the fuse and fuse holder overheat, it could soften or anneal the grip of the clip, it might require squeezing the clip to restore the tightness.

No! The 30 amp fuse is too high. The KZ650-C1 uses one 20 amp fuse for the main circuit and two 10 amp fuses for the other circuits. Gotta be careful or you may end up frying your wiring harness if anything shorts out. The KZ650-C1 Owner’s Manual calls for a 20 amp fuse for the main and a 10 amp for the head and 10 amp for the tail circuits. Here's the relevant piece of the KZ650-C1 wiring diagram that shows the fuses and the colors of their associated circuits. Below that is a link to the entire KZ650-C1 wiring diagram. Swap that 30 amp fuse for a 20 amp as soon as you can to avoid potential wiring harness damage. Ed

Might be time to check your fuses if you're running a 30 amp in a 20 amp circuit. Ed

Damn well I went 30amp in a hurry and off I went. Jumped on the interstate for about 5 miles and As I exited got sharp, intermittent cut offs (hesitations) above 3800 rpm. Below that no problems. Above that, the more pronounced and abrupt the cut offs the higher the rpm
Me thinks I bbq'd a coil. Sound right? Cant check resistance or voltage today but I'm trying to totally prepare myself for a dyna purchase.

If your bike has points instead of the Kawasaki supplied electronic ignition, I'd check the gap and replace the condensors(capacititors) as they may be failing. Check the sparkplug caps too for correct ohm resistance. They unscrew from the sparkplug wires and test at 5000 ohms.
As you suggested, the coils may be failing at high rpm's too.

Thanks for this info. If I understand it correctly It should be possible for me to convert my 1977 650 fuse set up to a blade system without to much trouble ?? Or am I just being optimistic. I have just remade new bits of wiring harness from left and right switch sets, learning about electrics on the go and it looks pretty dodgy in the fuse box area, my next task.
Cheers

If you have or can make a wiring diagram, this will make the change over much easier than guessing where the wires might go. Your're going to need wire, wire strippers, crimpers, the terminals to be crimped, and the fuse holders & fuses.
I believe a forum member "otakar" has changed his bike's fuses to the "Blade Style". It should be in the history....
