Actually it has a Dyna coil! Pretty sure it went bad. It was a week old

On a bike with points, (or even a Dyna S ignition), leaving the ignition on with the bike not running can damage a coil pretty quickly.

If you are doing non-ignition related electrical work and need the bike turned on and not running, turn the kill switch to off.
