79 KZ650 SR. Oil light? was created by dahltron
Hey I am brand new to this bike and this is my first attempt to rebuild a bike ever so excuse the noob/rookie questions im about to ask. I have the KZ650 SR and I just put in a new, fully charged battery. I have the Negative and Positive sides correct but there is a small red wire that also connects to one of the battery posts. When it is connected to the positive the Oil Light comes on even when there is no key in the ignition, when the bike is like this... I press the horn button and the oil light dims as if all the power is draining from it. I can't get the bike to turn over at all. If I move the red wire to the negative terminal nothing happens on anything at all. I'll take pictures tomorrow to post on here but does this sound like anything that anyone might have experienced before?

I don't know the answer, but maybe the wiring diagram will be helpful:
