self canceling signals? was created by riverroad
According to my Clymers, my 1980 1000LTD is supposed to have self canceling signals?
Where's the gizmo that controls that? Think I'd kinda like to have that function.

Is your Clymer right? Would be the question. They cover so many models and have more mistakes than a Factory manual. I don't have a copy for your bike but do a search on here and see, I'm pretty sure I've seen the one for your year linked for a download before.
If it had it, it would have a solenoid inside the left hand control. And a distance counter.

Those solenoids rarely work after these many years (way too undersized to start with), you can clean & lube it and it might work but if it was like the last one I did that to it lasted for about a week then stuck again.

The diagram (shown below) from Kawasaki.com doesn't show an auto-cancelling module for the '79-B3/'80-B4 KZ1000 LTD's, so it's likely that your Clymer has too many KZ1000 nodels covered in that particular manual causing confusion.
Diagram:
#29 = Reserve Lighting SWitch
#9 = Outage Indicator Switch (I'm guessing for the taillight).

IIRC, Kaw didn't start using the auto-cancel signals until about '84?

Hopefully someone else that owns an '80 1000-B4 LTD and has better knowledge on this will pop in and set the story straight. :)

The system was available on the 81's. Not sure about 80, but I would guess No.

Thanks for the replies ya'll. It wouldn't surprise me to learn that my Clymers has led me astray yet again. The last time, I was reading about my brakes and it said something about "performance improvement" on such and such page. Went to that page and there was no mention of brakes at all.

78 Z1R's had them, my 80 ltd 750 had it but my 81 ltd 750 didn't. They were nice but not many really function now so I would be skeptical of buying the components off something like e=bay to put on a bike.

You can buy them aftermarket. They are basically a 555 timer circuit that trns off the flasher power after a specific time interval which turns off the turn signal, even though the TS switch is still in the on position. You have to return the TS switch to off to reset it.

I forgot to add some info.

If you find out that your bike does indeed have an auto signal cancel feature, or if you plan on installing one, odds are that around week 3 of using it you'll hate it so much that you're going to want to unplug it and maybe even toss it as far as you can throw it like I did for my ZN700. :pinch:

Yeah, I just got a little 12V buzzer to beep when the signals flash so I remember to turn them off. Make life simple.
