I figured it out - one of the fuses appeared to be fully functional, but one of the caps had eroded away and wasn't making contact internally (although filament still looked good). Simple voltmeter check showed this was the case.

Hi all!

I'm trying to rebuild my bike, and am having problems with the headlight.

Neither the high nor the low beams work, and I have never seen them work (haven't had the bike on the road). The handlebar switch tests all show that the continuity changes when I flip the switch, so that's working. I don't have any voltage at the headlight connector, though (not a bulb issue). I'm wondering if it's the reserve lighting unit. How do I test that thing? Do they ever go bad? I don't think it's a short because the rest of the electrical seems to be doing well (at least it's not a short to ground), and all the fuses seem to be intact.

Any other suggestions? Thanks!

Regards,
Dave
