Starter rebuild

Pulled apart my starter, discovered that the armature is worn down pretty bad. A replacement starter is more than I can spend right now, and the rebuild kits don't include an armature. I have had no success in finding a replacement armature. Does anyone know where to find a replacement armature? Also, I have been told that you can turn down the surface of the armature like you would a brake rotor. Has anyone had this done? It seems logical that you could just reset the brushes to contact it, but if this is done, would the gaps in the armature no longer be correct? I don't really know all that much about it except how to take it apart and put it back together.

Try your local electrical starter rebuilding shops. They can probably tell you what the service limits are.

Here's three websites for more information

A. www.mawonline.com/newsite/rick_s_motorsp...-starter_brushes.htm

B. www.cyclewareables.com/pages/street_star...kits/startmtrkit.htm (not sure if the website is still viable)

C. www.psep.biz/store/mitsuba_starter_motors_page_2.htm
