speedo reading slower than i am going. was created by garyprather
I have had many people set cruise at 60mph and I would follow them on my 1983 1100 spectre, my speedo says am going 55. I checked the cable, in which seems to be good shape. I would not think kawasaki would have put a speedo gauge on that read 5 slower than someoen was acutally going. I have not checked the gear in the hub yet. Anyone have any past knowlege on this. BTW the tire and rim are both the correct sizes, front and back.

Changed tire sizes? This can happenif you go to a larger diameter front tire. Speedometer cable clean? Pull it out of the outer covering, checking for broken strands of the twisted cable & clean and lube with a thin grease.

In my experience, the large majority of bike speedometers are wildly optimistic.

Just guessing, but would think your speedo might be more accurate than those being compared.

Reportedly, a GPS unit could show the true mph road speed.

Good Fortune! :)

Rumor has it that some older BMW and Triumph models have slightly pessimistic cable driven speedometers.

:woohoo: Enjoy assuring casual admirers that mine easily pass the 120 speedo mark.
Which might actually be an honest 99 mph (but maybe less).

Figuring I'm okay in a 70 mph zone at an indicated 80 (thinking actually 75 or less), and not overtaking much traffic either, actually getting passed by some speedier cages. :pinch:

Good Fortune! :)
