gel battery? was created by captain awsum
so I have a project 78kz400, I'm lookin to order some stuff off of the same site to save on shipping. In looking I found a 'gel battery' (
www.motorcycle-superstore.com/Mobile/Ite...=28402&ModelId=15020
)that says it withstands vibration and temp changes better, and less likely to leak, etc. Any idea if it's woth the extra $30 or so dollars on a battery? And any idea bout the quality of that site and its parts? Thanks

You only care if it's leakproof if you are planning to go upside down.... I think gel cells are OK but you get more amp-hour capacity for your money with a conventional wet cell. I don't think gel cells are superior for temp range, they both have a similar temp coefficient.

Gel is the same thing as AGM in the sense that is not water refillable... it's not tolerant to overcharging as a regular old wet lead acid battery (when overcharged just add distilled water and you're done).
Be sure your rectifier/regulator is new or in top shape when using sealed batteries (GEL and AGM)!

laurent

I agree with both of the previous two posts. I do NOT think they are worth the money under any means. I used to be in the Rechargeable battery business some years ago.
