Converting turn signals to running lights was created by mtbspeedfreak
Hi guys,

I'd like to convert my rear turn signals to running lights AND turn signals. What's the easiest way to accomplish this? The on/off turn signal bulb uses an 1156 bulb whereas the running light/ turn signal uses an 1157 bulb. The bulb base patterns are slightly different.

I have a spare set of turn signals lying around to perform this modification permanently.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

I did it on mine. The easiest way is to buy a couple of dual filament bulb sockets (as used in the front) and install them in the back and use dual filament bulbs there. Wire the smaller filaments to the +12V light wire going to the tail light and you will have rear running lights.

Check with the local DMV (Dept.of Motor Vehicles)as some states will not allow rear amber running lights. You might be able to use the signals if the lens are replaced with RED ones.

Using new or used front lights to be used in the rear is no big problem, you just need a power source for the running light circuit.

Color Codes On Most Kawasaki’s (written for 1980’s bikes)

HEADLIGHT
RED with BLACK stripe, High Beam.
RED with YELLOW stripe, Low Beam.
BLACK with YELLOW stripe, the ground circuit.

BRAKE/TAIL LIGHT Can be an # 1157 dual filament bulb
RED, Running or Tail Light. (Probably tap into this circuit for the power source)
BLUE,(sometimes with a Red stripe) Brake Light Circuit.
BLACK with YELLOW stripe, the ground circuit.

LEFT FRONT TURN SIGNAL Can be an #1157 dual filament bulb
GREEN, Left front turn signal circuit.
BLUE, Left front running light circuit.
BLACK with YELLOW stripe, the ground circuit.

RIGHT FRONT TURN SIGNAL Can be an # 1157 dual filament bulb
GREY, Right front turn signal circuit.
BLUE, Right front running light circuit.
BLACK with YELLOW stripe, the ground circuit.

LEFT REAR TURN SIGNAL Can be an #1156 single filament bulb
GREEN, Left rear turn signal circuit.
BLACK with YELLOW stripe, the ground circuit.

RIGHT REAR TURN SIGNAL Can be an #1156 single filament bulb
GREY, Right rear turn signal circuit.
BLACK with YELLOW stripe, the ground circuit.

I'd use a solder splice and heatshrink tubing for a water tight connection.
