Not sure the exact size, but you need a heavy grade bolt to use as a puller. Sometimes the rear axle bolt is the correct size (M18 I think...). Usually a black bolt - like grade 10 or higher I believe.

You just turn in the bolt till it stops, then whack it good with a large mallet ( I prefer a sledge with a couple towels rapped around), and then tighten the bolt some more, whack it, tighten it real hard, whack it...

You get the picture - it'll pop off after several applications.

Good luck.

Wait a minute! The stator rotor isn't bolted on? It just sits in place magnetically? Is there another method to remove this if you do not have a puller??

Let's see, the stator(the wire windings) sits inside the engine side cover, secured with 3 fasteners. The rotor is bolted to the crankshaft. This part has the magnets, so when it spins,a magnetic field produces alternating current(maybe 50 volts).

Right, I'm familiar with the stator, but I am rewiring the 750, and noticed a little oil when I pulled the stator cover off. I want to remove the magnet rotor to see what's going on behind there, but I'm not really sure how to do it. Came across this post and thought I missed something. So....how do I hold that sucker still to remove the bolt? And after that I need a puller?

The small amount of oil is normal, it cools the stator windings and lubricates the starter clutch parts. As for removing the rotor, I'd think an impact wrench would work the best.

Interesting. I have an impact wrench, so I will see how that works for me tomorrow. No harm in still having a look to make sure everything is as it should be behind there. Thanks for the help

I have that same bike but ratted out.
Went to Bert's its a huge bike shop here in So Cal.
Anyways got the bolt for a little over $10.
Just put it in tighten it down and get a impact and it comes right off.
But when you put it back on do it in increments of 10lbs till you get the final lbs with losing the bolt each time.
I did it 5 times before the final set lbs.
