I jump started an SUV! was created by mtbspeedfreak
I just jump-started a friend's Honda Pilot with my 900! I ran it around the block 2 or 3 times to warm the engine up (it was 85 degrees outside already) then pulled up to a curb, facing it dead on. Put it up on the centerstand, then wiggled it back and forth to jam the front wheel right against the 8" tall curb. I pulled the seat and RH side cover off to easily access the battery terminals, but the positive alligator clamp didn't reach the battery terminal, so a friend held a screwdriver on the terminal and we clamped right to the screw driver shaft. Hooked the leads to the Pilot, started the bike, squeezed the front brake like there was no tomorrow and ran it up to fifth gear so there would be some resistance on the engine. Then I rolled it up to 6k RPM, no good; poured it on to 8k and the car started right up. Pulled the clutch in and cycled back down through the gears then rode it around to get some air flowing around the jugs.

The little bike that could! Highlight of my Monday B)

If it has tits or tires, it'll give you problems!

Do that a couple of times and you will be replacing your alternator regulator and rectifier. That system is rated at 12 Amps MAX. A starter on a car can draw as much as ten times that but 30A minimum. There was no reason to have the bike under any kind of load anyway the alternator would have given it a load and as long as you are nor crazy with the revs it makes no difference. Better your electrical system than mine. I would not have done that even with a "J" bike that is rated at 20A.

I lost the battery in my pick-up truck when jumping the Water delivery truck at -50 one winter. Got him started fine, but I was without any power the next morning. I keep him from freezing some expensive plumbing. It would have Unsoldered a plate or terminal inside the battery. It was about 3 months old, 1050 CCA.
The battery on your bike would receive one Big AMP Draw doing that jump start, which it of course was never designed to do.
