Turn signal auto sshut off was created by Pghpagan
I have an '81 KZ440 LTD and the turn signal auto cut off doesn't work. Any help on how to fix this would be appreciated. Thanks.

The relay for the auto signal cancel is either defective or simply unplugged.
It's likely the latter, since most folks found this feature was more of a PITA than it was worth (IE: shutting signal off before you've even entered the turn lane) and they would unplug it.

If your bike is the same as my ZN700, you should find that relay mounted just beneath the battery box. It will be a small, black rectangular box (slightly smaller than your fuse box) housed in a rubber sleeve.

I too have a ZN-700 and the auto cancel was working a few days ago and it suddenly stopped. Now it did this once before when I first got the bike but it started working again. I will try to locate this relay on my bike and see if it has a loose connection.

What kind of new-fangled gadgetry is that? Next they'll be putting air conditioning on bikes. :woohoo:

HA! Yeah sure! Next you'll be tellin' me your petcock is automatic and you don't have to shut it off or your blinker does not need fluid or you can't turn off your headlight! Sir your flying car is ready and don't forget your computohat! :woohoo:

No seriously is that like a bluehair turn signal special order thingy? I need one for my buddy. he rides around with his directional on like 90% of the time. I tell him just rig up some flashers and ride with them on.

Sorry... if it's not the fuse you need to get a electrical schematic and start tracing the circuit.

Take it from me cuz I found
If you leave it then somebody else is bound,
To find that treasure, that moment of pleasure,
When yours, it could have been.

The system is relatively simple, see if this is the same as its taken from the 550.

Ah, that makes much more sense. I thought the thing was wonky on my '81 440 LTD because it would cut off in turns or even before i turned. Silly me figured it worked based on bike tilt, not simply distance and a timer. 50 meters is hardly enough distance make it down the turn lane, then if you are caught by the light it will turn off in 4 seconds while you wait for the light to turn green again!

I was just thinking of the distance sensor mentioned and that it gets a signal from the front wheel. The only thing that connects the front wheel to the instrument cluster is the speedo cable; a mechanical device.

Now I have had my speedo stop working several times since I have owned it and the canceling function still worked. Now if I give the speedo a quick rap on the top it starts working again. Cable is tight at the speedo. When I first bought the bike it stopped working on the ride home; I pulled the cable and inspected both ends and neither showed any damage. Odometer still works when speedo isn't...

The Distance sensor on yours might be on the upper end, at the Speedo. Look for a connector with the 2 wires, Light Green and a RED. It should be in a 4 wire connector inside the head light housing, coming from the Speedo.
Those later bikes like mine have a different sensor, and an Electronic, not Cable, Speedo.
