Hi all
:)

i bought my kz250A about 9 months ago, and rode it round NSW in my school hols. however, its been getting harder and harder to start. One spark plug has great spark while the other is pretty ordinary, does anyone know the points clearances? and the valve clearances?
also, i've only found one place to get parts for the bike in nsw, jos motorcycles, and hes pretty ordinary. Does anyone else know where to get parts from? I'm planning on riding it to Darwin on my ride to England next year- would love some advice on getting her running well again.

thanks!
Sarah :D

I dont know the actual specs, but these numbers have worked fine for me.

.003 intake, .004 exhaust (thousands of an inch).

.002 thou for the points gap/dwell - dont bother trying to clean them up, just get new points and condensors.

Clean up your electrical connections with a blast of elec cleaner that restores and protects.

Cheers.

I think he meant to say the point gap/ dwell should be .012-.014". .002" the points would barely open, dwell would be like way to long.
the other small KZ owners that have posted in the last week, have had valve adjustment clearances of:
KZ 305= .005" Intake and .008" Exhaust. KZ 400= .008" Intake and Exhaust. I don't have a book for your 250 but somewhere in that range should be fine.
Oh and welcome to KZR.

Hi and welcome aboard! The correct point gap is 0.3 to 0.4 mm. The correct valve clearance is 0.14 to 0.19 mm for INLET; 0.21 to 0.26 for EXHAUST. Take a look at the link below and click on "Click here to start download from MediaFire.." It will download a PDF containing the Kawasaki factory shop manual for your bike. Cheers; Ed

Yah....and read my recent thread just a few days ago about the trouble I had with the service manual procedure for setting clearances on my 82 KZ305. Unless you are more savvy than I was about valves (that's not difficult), in which case it can be safely ignored.
