i have an 81 kz550 rewiring it but i am not sure if the coil wires that go to the positive of the ic ignighter go to the ignition switch? any help would be greatly appreciated. i also replaced a fork seal and added 7.9 ounces of fork oil but the fork seems weak. should i add more fork oil?

This link leads to downloadable wiring diagram in KZr FILEBASE for 1981 KZ550:

What weight and type oil was put in the forks?

Would suggest a heavier weight for firmer fork action, and using the correct volume as specified in the FSM.

Good Fortune! :)

The stock springs are half as stiff as they should be, they are designed to use air assist. Get some new springs from Progressive, and use 15w oil and no air, for best results.
