LOST MY SPARK!

hey all,


To start i ride a 1981 kawasaki KZ550 LTD with the three wire alternator and i got a screwed up problem... so i dumped the bike the other day as some crazy woman backed into me and it smashed the right cover and the one pickup coil into the center and caused the ignition advance to braeak off a spring and a teeth. either way i bent the pickup back to 90 degreese and did the few checks my service manual told me to do...

now. i can get spark manually, that is if i touch a screwdriver to the pickup coil i can get spark on all plugs. but when i hit the start button i got no spark. anything i can test that i can think of with a multi meter shows up fine but still no spark? im lost so any help would help


BTW: i have swapped out the ignitor, timing advance, rotor, and pickups from another bike that i know previously ran.

Was the replacement parts from a same 1981 KZ550 LTD?

Might help to list what you tested and how with the meter.

yes the parts are from another 1981 kz550c1 the only difference i can tell is that the parts bike has the reed valves in the front valve cover i think its something to do with crank gas vent of something. i tested the ignitor, pick ups, and coils all by the book(checking resistance and volts). even tried to hotwire the bike and nothing. the only way to get spark is to tap the pickups with a screwdriver.

Test your kill switch? It could give you that problem, and you can still get a manual spark with it broke...

If you laid it down during the accident there is a good chance it has been damaged, or the wires going to it were..
