okay so i put on a new set of rear directionals on my 81 kz650. i mounted them on the tail light housing so that i can make room for new saddle bags that are comming. everything is all hooked up but they will not flash, and now the front directionals just stay lit up. the directionals i put on the rear are the match to the ones on the front which have been on for a couple months and working fine. anyone have any ideas. im sure im am just missing something simple.

You should check with the local law enforcement people before using amber lights in the rear for running lights. I believe Federal law prohibits amber at the rear except for directional operation(turn signals).
As for your problem, I suspect a ground wire is not hooked up.
Color Codes On Most Kawasaki’s
HEADLIGHT:
RED with BLACK stripe, High Beam.
RED with YELLOW stripe, Low Beam.
BLACK with YELLOW stripe, the ground circuit.
BRAKE/TAIL LIGHT:
RED, Running or Tail Light.
BLUE,(sometimes with a Red stripe) Brake Light Circuit.
BLACK with YELLOW stripe, the ground circuit.
LEFT FRONT TURN SIGNAL:
GREEN, Left front turn signal circuit.
BLUE, Left front running light circuit.
BLACK with YELLOW stripe, the ground circuit.
RIGHT FRONT TURN SIGNAL:
GREY, Right front turn signal circuit.
BLUE, Right front running light circuit.
BLACK with YELLOW stripe, the ground circuit.
LEFT REAR TURN SIGNAL:
GREEN, Left rear turn signal circuit.
BLACK with YELLOW stripe, the ground circuit.
RIGHT REAR TURN SIGNAL:
GREY, Right rear turn signal circuit.
BLACK with YELLOW stripe, the ground circuit.

they are the directionals, all i did was remove the factory ones, and put on these, did them one at a time, took the wire from then original left rear directional and put it on the new left rear directional, then the same for the right. i didnt really change any wireing. thats what has me stumped

Try grounding the stem of your signal to the frame. Yellow in the rear? No.

okay i got them working, grounding the stem worked. but im confused on the whole no yellow in the rear. the stock ones were the same color. i didnt set them up as running lights or brake lights. just directional. so yellow should be okay right?? i looked at some pictures of other kz's and most of them have yellow directionals too. im bringing the bike in for state inspection next week so if this isnt correct then i want to change it before i go in

Sorry about that, I am confused with reflectors. Both my KZ's have yellow on all 4 corners.

Did you check the bulbs to make sure they're the same type as the originals? If, for example, they're LED bulbs they won't flash with the original flasher. Ed
