KZ motor swap electrical problems
06 May 2011 20:25
I did a motor swap, and the newer motor has more wires than the old one did. old motor had 2 wires, new one has 5. new motor is a 77 kz750 twin. old motor is 77 kz200 single. everything else is already done, exept the charging wires, because I dont know what to do with all the extra wires.. Anyone can help?

The KZ200 had a single phase permanent magnet alternator with two wires while the 77 750 has an excited field alternator with all those wires. The simplest solution is to use 78-80 750 rotor, stator, side cover, and regulator, otherwise you need to find the 76-77 750 regulator and rectifier assembly, and they are not always easy to find.

Well that just makes too much sense! Guess it wont be running this weekend after all! Thoughts on which way you would go yourself?

Found an aftermarket regulator/rectifier for $86, will just buy it and be done. Thanks for the info!
