Timing advancer question
26 Apr 2011 23:59 - 27 Apr 2011 00:26
I'm installing a new pickup coil, and the dyna instructions say to "use the advance timing marks which are approximately 1/2" to the right of the f marks". Well, I don't know which mark is which, and cant find a clear answer in the manual. The 1-4 side of the advancer has four marks, the 2-3 side has one that's 180 degrees opposite the far left mark on the 1-4 side. If the advance timing mark on the 1-4 side isn't the one on the far left, then I have no mark for adjusting the pickup module for 2-3. Furthermore, if it's either one of the two marks on the far right, the pickup won't rotate counter-clockwise enough to even line it up.
So, which mark should I be using? Seeing how I have to have a mark to check each module, I cant see how it's anything other than the far left mark on the 1-4 side, which doesn't jive at all with the dyna instructions for static timing adjustment.
I'm gonna try to include my drawing of the 1-4 side of the advancer
EDIT: the slots on the pickup plate allow me to adjust as far right as the "1" stamp on the advancer/case alignment.

I have good success timing Dyna-S the same as with points, using a strobe type timing light and aligning the F mark with the case mark at idle rpm.
This allows and relies on the advancer to do its job as Kawasaki intended.
If desired, may also verify advanced position with the timing light at higher rpm.
Pic below has Kaw rotor (metal pointer) instead of Dyna-S round rotor with embedded magnet.
Good Fortune!
