battling kz900 A4 Starter issues

Starter has never worked.... luckily she fires on first kick. Have to re-jet and while carbs off decided to get a working starter.

Push start button and solenoid clicks. Pull in clutch and still just clicks. Jumped solenoid leads and nothing.

Pulled started and she spins freely (have not yet opened to inspect bushings) but while reading manual it said starter clutch should move freely "clockwise" and not counter. I reach in and spin but have the exact opposite, she spins "counter clockwise" freely and won't budge other direction.

Am I reading something wrong or is this indicating starter clutch issues???

Other question is there a way to bypass or test clutch switch to starter?

I am going into a holding pattern until I hear from some that have been into this further than I... Thanks

if starter is out of bike run a jumper wire from case of starter to negative side of battery to ground it,them touch starter cable to positive side of battery and see if it kicks over.
hold starter between your feet so it doesnt roll away while checking it B)

Woooo Hoooo she cranks. Put starter on jump and she spun up and down nice and quiet. So it was a major connection cleaning, a lil dielectric goo on everything and BOOM push start KZ900 :)

Closed and on to re-jetting.
