I picked up an electronic flasher for my '79 KZ1000 today. The idea is to be prepared in case I get LED turn signals in the future.

Anyways, I bought the flasher at Checker. It's a Littelfuse #759 three prong job. They had several different models made by the same company. I asked the guy at the counter what's the difference and he didn't know.

Took the flasher home, unplugged the original two prong and tried every combination of those two wires on the Littelfuse flasher. It wouldn't work. In one combination, I could hear it making a clicking sound inside. Funny, I thought these things are solid state? Sounds like a starter relay making a click. Well the lights still wouldn't blink.

Any suggestions? I don't know if returning this one and getting another will do any good.

Thanks, Mike

I use a Tridon/Stant 522 2 prong in my '77 KZ650-C1. It works great and provides a steady flash even when the battery is a little low. Was your original a 3-prong type? Ed

A two lead flasher is placed in series with power to the TS switch. So, it has a 12V feed line on one terminal and the center switch node on the other. The terminals can probably be reversed with no problem.

A three wire solid state flasher should need a 12V feed wire in the power lead, a ground wire for the unit, and the light wire that needs to go to the switch center node. Sounds like you will need to ID the two wires you have and add a ground.

Thanks for that info guys! My original is a two prong. I will run a ground wire to the negative terminal and see if this flasher works.

Bounty Hunter, adding the ground worked! It was very easy, just connect a new wire to the ground on the flasher and hook it into a ground on the harness.

Thanks again.
