identify this part

while replacing my old coils i came across a small rectangular part with 3 wires going to a plastic clip. it looks to be cased in rubber and is badly deteriated. the whole thing is maybe 5 inches long including the wires. would like to know what it is,what it does, and should i replace???? 78 kz 1000

Might try matching wire colors on wiring diagram. :)

I'm going to guess that it's your brake light failure indicator switch. If I'm right, it's the part that senses that your taillight bulb has burned out, and lights the indicator on your dasboard that says "Brake." You probably don't need to do anything about it unless you are having a problem with function of the brake light failure warning. I know mine looked pretty bad, but still worked just fine.
